I’m currently on my second laptop. I bought my Compaq Presario 1685 just before I moved to Poland in 1999, and it served me well. However, the floppy drive died 13 months into the 12 month warranty period so I ended up buying an external one. In mid-2004 the CD drive decided that it had had enough and went to that big mainframe in the sky.
Luckily, I had planned on going back to the US in December 2004, so I decided to wait til then to buy a new one (due to the fact that electronics were much cheaper there than in the USA (with mail in rebates, Christmas sales, etc)). My current electronic steed is a Compaq Presario and like it a lot.
